The file C:\Users\Katarina\Videos\iPhone videos\IMG_0600.MOV cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again.

You do not need to download any codecs (or codec packages). Don’t even try that… It’s not necessary. Let me tell you what the problem is in relation to the message you are receiving when attempting to import a MOV file into Windows Movie Maker:
MOV file name extensions (formats) are not compatible with the Windows Movie Maker program. Only the following video formats will work in Windows Movie Maker:
.asf, .avi, .dvr-ms, .m1v, .mp2, .mp2v, .mpe, .mpeg, .mpg, .mpv2, .wm, .wmv
You are going to have to convert the video to one of the file name extensions (formats) listed above. Free video converters are available online. Simply Google: free video converters. Choose one… download and install it. For the sake of convienience, visit this site for direct download links for video converters:*%20Video%20Converters%20%28Download%20Links%29.
Once you have a video converter installed, open the program. Locate and add the MOV video file to the conversion list. Follow the conversion instructions ensuring the ‘Output Source’ format is one of the file name extensions (formats) compatible with Movie Maker. And too, be sure to choose your Output Path (saving destination) as well.
If the conversion is successful, you will be able to import/edit the video in the Windows Movie Maker program.
You can either download a codec or a video converter to convert the files to wmv avi that windows movie maker can easily work with.
I personally like using a video converter because it makes things much easier for me. But that just me. Note that, every conversion is a hit to the qulity. The quality will also depends on the settings. ie. bit rate. You can test yourself.
Here is the video converter that I use.
